The current situation and solutions of food marketing aimed at children

Background and Objective

The subject of food marketing to children has been widely debated, so the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare gathered researchers, policy makers and the commercial sector to discuss the latest findings of the topic. Participants gave their point of view and evaluated further the current situation regarding food and drink marketing for children and the youth.
The Chamber of Commerce has also introduced a newly founded board for implementing voluntary guidelines to regulate food marketing. The main task of the board is to evaluate, encourage and give advice for self-regulation for the food industry sector.

Conclusions

Public and the private sector will be jointly collaborating to find out means for regulating harmful food and drink marketing for children and youth in Finland. Stakeholders gave their assurance to take further actions to reassure the safety of food marketing in Finland.
